THE BAOBAB TREE

The Baobab is a curious tree present on the island of Madagascar in Africa, also known as "the rotated tree," according to one Arab legend proclaiming that the devil turned the tree and planted it upside down with the roots up.

Another legend says that the baobab, conscious of his strength and presence, came to challenge the gods,  he was punished for his audacity and sentenced to grow upside down with the crown and roots underground wind.
They get to have more than 1000 years (although there have been some up to 4000 years old).

These trees are of great value: the oil from its seeds is edible, the trunk serves as food for livestock during drought or when the grass has not yet sprouted, and its wood is used to make boats. ;)
